Rubens’ Lake Park Resort
In 1914 Rudolf Ruben and his brother Karin, Swedish immigrants, purchased four acres on Duck Lake for $600. They started a tent camp resort below the hill and began advertising in the Chicago Daily Tribune for summer vacationers. “Bathing, boating and fishing $8/week”. Customers came from Chicago on passage freighters that had daily service to White Lake. In 1919 they built the home that is the current Inn. Over time the Rubens expanded the resort and added seven small cottages and a dining hall. The resort operated until 1937. Additions were added in the 1960’s. The Pequets have owned the property since 1985.
